SELECTING A LAND SURVEYOR

In todays economical time the first thing everyone ask is HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? Along with how much will it cost, you should consider asking a few more important questions.

Glen Tanner Land Surveying has compiled a list of questions to ask before selecting or hiring a Land Surveyor.

  • FIRST AND FOREMOST MAKE SURE THAT WHO EVER YOU ARE CONSIDERING USING, THAT HE OR SHE IS A REGISTERED ALABAMA LAND SURVEYOR !
  • Is the Land Surveyor in charge actually performing the work in the field and office or a Field Crew and Drafting Technician?
  • If a Field Crew is used how much experience and training does the Party chief and Instrument Technician have? THIS IS IMPORTANT IF THE LAND SURVEYOR IN CHARGE ISN`T DOING THE WORK!
  • Does Land Surveyor in charge come out to the field or job site to make sure All work has been done correctly by his crew before finalizing his or her survey.
  • Is the Land Surveyor in GOOD standings with the BOL (Board Of Licensure For Professional Engineers And Land Surveyors) ?

Call the BOL at (334-242-5568) or TOLL FREE (866-461-7640) and ask if the Land Surveyor you are considering hiring has ANY Bol violations PAST or PRESENT. This is VERY IMPORTANT to help protect your interest and well being. The BOL will be glad to help, it is their job.

  • Will the Land Surveyor in charge come out, walk you around your property and explain his or her survey to you, if need be. This may not be necessary on surveys located in a residential subdivision, but something to keep in mind if buying rural property.
  • Cost of a survey is important, it is also important to know who and what you are getting for your money, before you hire a LAND SURVEYOR.
  • Consider this, what would you think if you met with a doctor about an operation you need, to get to the hospital to have the nurse perform the operation. Or met with an attorney about house closing or court case to show up and have the office clerk handling your case, DON`T THINK SO. So should you expect less out of your Land Surveyor?

Hope this list will help you in selecting your next Alabama Land Surveyor.
